British Interrogation Reports

U.S. Navy's POW handling, interrogation techniques and procedures were modeled on those of the U.K.

Prior to the U.S. entry into WWII, the U.S. Navy sent an intelligence officer (LCDR Ralph Albrecht) to the U.K. to observe the interrogation of U-boat POWS.  The U.K. provided a liaison officer (LT R. W. B. Izzard, R.N.V.R.) who served with Op-16 and trained the initial cadre of U.S. Navy POW interrogators.

The U.K. operated an interrogation center  known as the "C.S.D.I.C." (Combined Services Detailed Interrogation Center) at Cock Fosters Camp for the joint use of the Royal Navy, the R.A.F. and the Army.  The Army had the responsibility for guarding the camp and providing for the messing, clothing, etc. of POWs.  This model was adopted by the U.S. Armed Forces when the Joint Interrogation Center for the Interrogation of War Prisoners was established in 1941.  Procedures for the handling, initial processing and formal interrogation of POWs were almost identical to those used at the C.S.D.I.C.  Even the format of the British interrogation reports was adopted by the U.S. Navy.
